Anthony Attiah is one of the most accomplished swimmers in state history. He made his impact immediately as a freshman, and continued his impressive run all the way through the Olympic trials. Anthony was all-conference all four years at Palatine High School. He also was a six-time conference champion, a seven-time sectional champ, and a state qualifier 11 times. Of those 11 trips to state, Anthony was a finalist nine times and a two-time state champion in the 100-breaststroke in 1992 and 1993. Anthony was fittingly named Male Athlete of the Year in 1993. After continuing his swimming career at Ohio State University, Anthony became a national champion and record holder at junior nationals. He was an eight-time national qualifier and set the national record in the 100-meter breaststroke. Anthony qualified for the Olympic trials and was a multiple qualifier and finalist in the senior nationals. Looking to give back to the sport in which he excelled, Anthony was also a swim instructor as well as a lifeguard. Anthony’s individual accomplishments gained him notoriety, but his leadership skills and work ethic are what endeared him to his coaches and teammates.
