Don filled many rolls in his thirty-two year career in District 211. He taught math and served as an assistant coach in football and basketball for thirteen years. He was very instrumental in leading the Palatine High School basketball team to the “Sweet Sixteen” in 1981 and 1982. In 1985 he began his “new career” as an athletic administrator serving as the Athletic Director at Conant High School for three years and Palatine High School for four years. In 1992, Don became the Director of Student Activities for District 211, a position he held for twelve years. As Director, he supervised the district’s fi ve building athletic program, involving approximately 9,000 athletes and 500 coaches. He developed the district’s Drug/Alcohol Education Program, the College-Bound Student-Athlete Handbook and the Aquatics Procedure Handbook. Throughout his career, his coaches and fellow administrators confidently looked to him for leadership and support. Don’s commitment and contributions to athletics have been recognized at the state and national level. In 1998, he received the Illinois State Board of Education “Those Who Excel” award. In 2004, he was named the Athletic Administrator of the Year, and in 2007, he was inducted into the Illinois Athletic Director’s Association Hall of Fame. Don continues to support District 211 athletics as a fan and as a volunteer at the Palatine Relays.
