Bob's interest in writing began at an early age. As a sophomore attending Arlington High School in 1958 he was already writing for The Daily Herald. His passion for writing and sports has sculpted his distinguished career as a sports writer. His writing has earned him awards on the state and national level. In 1983, he received the Distinguished Service Award by the National Conference of High School Directors of Athletics in Orlando, FL., for enthusiastic leadership and support in the field of interscholastic athletics. In 1990, he was inducted into the Media Wing of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in Normal, IL. In 1992, he received the Meritorious Service Award from the Illinois Girls Coaches Association. In 2000, he received the Recognition Award from the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association. He also served three years on IHSA News Media Committee and initiated "Pack the Place", a promotion for high school sports. The Palatine community constantly benefits as a recipient of Bob's work. He has highlighted the athletic careers of several PHS athletes, such as Kevin McKenna, Dave Hasbach, Lori Erickson, Len Rohde, and Ron Kozlicki. Bob continues to demonstrate a passion to promote all the "good" associated with athletics. He is a true ambassador for high school sports.
